Reuben sandwiches aren’t exactly standard Southwestern fare, but we all crave some good deli food every once in a while. For nearly 75 years, Miracle Mile Delicatessen has been serving Arizonans an authentic taste of New York. Hot pastrami, corned beef, potato pancakes, and bagels with lox are just a few of the mouthwatering options. History, tradition, and just plain deliciousness all converge under one roof at this iconic Phoenix institution.
Miracle Mile first opened in 1949, when its founder moved to Arizona from Brooklyn. George Garcia, the current owner, started as a busboy at age 15 and soon worked his way to the top. Today, his family has been keeping the legacy of this Tucson institution alive for three generations and counting.
The menu is primarily comprised of classic deli sandwiches like the pastrami and Reubens. You may have eaten them a million times, but something about a mouthful of fresh, fluffy bread, perfectly cured meat, creamy dressing, and tangy sauerkraut just never gets old.
While tradition is of the utmost importance, Miracle Mile isn't afraid to push the envelope occasionally. Pastrami and mac 'n cheese sounds like a strange combination, but it works surprisingly well. Other creative concoctions include a patty melt on rye, pastrami burger, and a triple-decker sandwich.
Another favorite is the extremely colorful "Turkacado." Piled high with sliced white meat turkey, crispy bacon, aged cheddar, avocado, green leaf lettuce, tomato, and chipotle mayo, this behemoth is guaranteed to quell even the most ravenous appetites.
Seven different bread options allow for a different dining experience each time you visit. Never had a brisket sandwich on sourdough before? What about a kaiser roll? Shake up your usual order and perhaps discover a new favorite!
Miracle Mile Delicatessen is located at 4433 North 16th St., Phoenix, AZ 85016. Hours of operation are from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and closed on Sundays.
For more information, such as current hours of operation, you can visit their website or Facebook page.
