This One Little Arizona Town Is A Nature Lover’s Dream
The Grand Canyon State is full of natural wonders, but few cities have a higher concentration than Payson. This mid-sized town of just over 15,000 is a hidden oasis in Northern Arizona, with everything from a 300-million-year-old fossil site to the magical Mogollon Rim.

Forests and grassland cover the rocky landscape, which began forming 600 million years ago. Hike, big, or drive along a plethora of trails, marveling at the incredible diversity in both animal and plant life.

This incredible formation is believed to be the largest natural travertine bridge on earth, standing at a whopping 183 feet tall. The park features four trails, some of which lead into the cavernous expanse seen here. With a waterfall, boardwalk, and tons of lush greenery, this is a must-visit when in Payson.

This makes for some of the best stargazing in the world, with constellations like Andromeda, Scorpius, the Big Dipper as well as many planets visible to the naked eye. Additionally, Payson has a dark sky ordinance, which means light pollution is almost nonexistent.

This abandoned railroad tunnel is just a quarter-mile each way and looks like something straight out of a horror movie.

The water is about 98 degrees Fahrenheit and the main pool offers striking views of the scenic Verde River.

Hike, camp, and enjoy spectacular views of the jungle-like, moss-covered canyon.

Can you believe it's actually a lake instead of a river?
