Many of Arizona’s best pizza joints tend to be hidden in the middle of nowhere. We recently covered Old County Inn and thought it was an anomaly… but only until we came across Screaming Banshee. Located on a country road in the historic small town of Bisbee, this restaurant scores a 10/10 for both taste and atmosphere. Take a slice:
Home to just over 5,000 people, Bisbee is known for its eclectic charm. With a name like Screaming Banshee, this quirky pizza joint certainly fits right in.
Upon entry, you'd never guess this used to be a gas station. Striking a uniquely delicate balance between elegance and grunge, the paradoxical atmosphere hints at just how different of an experience customers are in for.
Start with one of several appetizers, like the classic Bruschetta. Topped with feta cheese, tomato, basil, and a balsamic reduction, this simple dish never gets old.
Those with a more adventurous palate will go nuts over Paul's Screaming Dip. Six cheeses, pepperoni, red sauce, and oregano are baked until bubbly in a wood-fired oven. It's pizza you can eat with a spoon!
The "Thai Me Up, Thai Me Down" is the house favorite. A sesame oil and mango chutney crust is topped with mozzarella, Satay chicken, and red onion, and is garnished with scallions, black sesame seeds, shredded carrots, and crushed peanuts. It’s a mouthful to describe and to devour!
If there's even an inch of room left in your stomach, the menu has several mouthwatering desserts to delight in. This decadent pie has cinnamon butter, strawberries, whipped cream, chocolate syrup, mascarpone, brown sugar, and bananas.
You'll find Screaming Banshee at 200 Tombstone Canyon, Bisbee, AZ 85603. The restaurant is open on Tuesday and Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., Thursday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Don’t just eat and then high-tail it out of town – Bisbee is too amazing of a place to not stick around a while longer! Check out our previous feature article, It’s Impossible Not To Love The Most Eccentric Town In Arizona, for a peek at all of the must-visit attractions.
