Drive-in restaurants are a symbol of Americana at its very finest, and the small handful that remains here in the Grand Canyon State instantly leaves us reminiscing on the good ol’ days. Screamers in Wickenburg is one such place, serving up burgers and shakes that give your childhood favorite diner a run for its money.
Wickenburg has a population of fewer than 8,000 permanent residents, but sees a lot of through-traffic because of its proximity to Phoenix.
Screamers Drive-In has been the roadside pit-stop of choice for these passersby for decades, and it hasn't changed much at all over the years.
Inside, the atmosphere is like stepping through a portal that leads straight into your childhood local diner. Checkered floors, leather booths, and memorabilia from the good ol' days take us back to simpler times.
The nostalgic decor might be fun, but alone, it isn't enough to attract the kinds of crowds Screamers draws in. These burgers, though? A completely different story.
Whether you prefer a classic 'Screamer' with all the fixings or something a bit more involved, like the Hawaiian burger, rest assured there's something for everyone.
Other popular burgers include Mushroom Swiss, Green Chili, Western BBQ, and Salsa.
Oh, and don't forget about dessert! Creamy, hand-spun shakes come in flavors like strawberry cheesecake, mint chip, and, of course, your standard chocolate and vanilla.
Monthly classic car shows really turn the place into a piece of living retro age history.
