I'm an east coast girl living in a west coast world. I grew up in New England before moving to SoCal for several years. I then lived in NYC or a year before moving to AZ in 2009. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years of my adult life and have a deep love for photography, writing, and traveling around the U.S. as well as to far-flung locations around the world. Travel is my life and writing about it is a dream!
Home to more iconic trails than we can count, spending time outdoors and exploring is almost mandatory when you live in Arizona. While we have vast desert landscapes throughout the state, there are several bodies of water we can also spend time at. And along our lakes and rivers, we can find hiking trails where we can fully immerse ourselves in the beauty of nature with views of the water. Have you spent much time at the Verde River? Well, there’s one secluded trail in Arizona that runs along this iconic river, and you may want to make plans to take a hike here.
Aside from the Salt River and the Colorado River, the Verde River is another iconic river that winds its way through the Arizona landscape. If you've ever wanted to explore this beautiful body of water, how about going for a hike?
Located within the Mazatzal Wilderness, a preserve in Yavapai County, is a trail that runs alongside the Verde River. Known as the Verde River Trail, you'll have to make sure you're prepared for this hike.
Of course, you don't have to trek this trail in its entirety. Many visitors hike to the sheep bridge and back. However, it's still a bit of a journey to get there.
If you're looking for some solitude while you hike, you won't encounter many others along the Verde River Trail. You can certainly enjoy the quiet as well as the gorgeous river views along the way.
Not only is this trail popular with avid hikers but with backpackers as well. If you plan on camping along the way, make sure you take out everything you bring in. Leave no trace!
