There’s something special about family-owned restaurants in Arizona. From the welcoming atmosphere to the generations-old recipes, nothing compares to dining at a historic eatery that has perfected its craft. La Fonda Mexican Restaurant is one such place, and it will quickly become your new favorite spot when the craving for Mexican food strikes.
Although La Fonda Mexican Restaurant recently relocated to Chandler (its original location) from Tempe, the quaint and unassuming eatery is still owned and operated by the fourth generation of the same family who started it all the way back in 1967.
When you step inside and see all the vibrant and colorful décor, you'll feel like you've been transported to a charming village in small-town Mexico. The space is larger than it once was, coming from humble beginnings with just a dozen tables, but the coziness and welcoming feeling are just as apparent today.
On the menu, you'll see a variety of classic, Sonoran-style dishes. Start with chips and salsa while you peruse the appetizers. From traditional cheese crisps to guacamole and queso, you really can't go wrong!
You'll definitely want to spend a few minutes looking over the main dishes before placing your order. There's a little bit of everything to choose from, so no matter what you're in the mood for, rest assured you'll find it here.
Expect to see all the usual suspects like tacos, enchiladas, and quesadillas, plus combination plates if you're feeling indecisive. Only the freshest ingredients are used in the cooking process, yielding bold and authentic flavors that embody the essence of Sonoran cuisine.
Lunch is served from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. on weekdays, and Happy Hour is from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. Monday-Friday, as well as 12 p.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday. The restaurant also serves brunch.
Speaking of Happy Hour, the drinks at La Fonda are truly out of this world. The full bar turns out handcrafted cocktails, beer, wine, and spirits that all promise love at first sip.
Visit the restaurant’s website or Facebook page for more information, including current hours and a full menu.
