You don’t need a time machine to travel back to the 19th century – at least, not when places like Heritage Square in Phoenix exist. Frozen in the past, this quaint city block is home to the Rosson House, an 1895 Queen Anne Victorian-style mansion that eternalizes the early days of our capital city. It’s a fun and educational experience the whole family is sure to enjoy.
Situated on Block 14 of the original Phoenix townsite, Heritage Square offers a fascinating glimpse into our city's rich history.
You'll get to know each of the families, learning all about their lives and admiring the modern luxuries - such as running water and electricity - that their wealth allowed them to enjoy. If you have little ones, your guide will capture their attention with plenty of fun facts about the children of the house - for example, did you know that, regardless of age, children were required to stay in the nursery for most of the day?
With how thoughtfully everything has been placed, it truly looks as if the museum is still a private residence. This is living history at its very finest!
You'll even see the in-home doctor's office where the first homeowner, Dr. Roland Lee Rosson (after whom the museum is named), practiced.
The area is full of charming shops and restaurants, including the world-famous Pizzeria Bianco. Your taste buds will thank you for grabbing a slice!
Tours are held every hour, on the hour from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Friday-Saturday and 12 p.m. until 4 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are available both online and at the Visitor Center.
