I'm an east coast girl living in a west coast world. I grew up in New England before moving to SoCal for several years. I then lived in NYC or a year before moving to AZ in 2009. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years of my adult life and have a deep love for photography, writing, and traveling around the U.S. as well as to far-flung locations around the world. Travel is my life and writing about it is a dream!
If you enjoy exploring the great outdoors as much as I do, you probably love all the options we have here in Arizona. Home to three national parks and over 30 state parks, outdoor adventure is easy to access. If you prefer less crowds when you go for a hike or a walk, there’s an underrated state park in Arizona you should consider visiting. Located in Pinal County, Oracle State Park is picturesque and serene, and offers over 15 miles of trails.
Oracle State Park can be found in Pinal County approximately 120 miles southeast of Phoenix. This 4,000-acre park at the northern foothill of the Catalina Mountains is ideal for hiking and wildlife viewing.
Within the park are 15 miles of trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. A portion of the 800-mile Arizona National Scenic Trail crosses through the park as well.
If you're in the mood to take a long easy walk here, try the Wildlife Corridor Trail. At 3.4 miles, this out-and-back trail will take approximately 1.5 hours depending on your pace.
One of the best parts about walking this trail, aside from the stunning scenery of course, is that you won't encounter too many people along the way. This is perfect if you want to experience some solitude.
This trail at Oracle State Park is dog-friendly. However, there is very little shade so bring a hat and other sun protection with you as well as plenty of water. Happy hiking!
