I'm an east coast girl living in a west coast world. I grew up in New England before moving to SoCal for several years. I then lived in NYC or a year before moving to AZ in 2009. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years of my adult life and have a deep love for photography, writing, and traveling around the U.S. as well as to far-flung locations around the world. Travel is my life and writing about it is a dream!
Many of us enjoy a glass of wine every so often. I know I do! Oftentimes, we will make a run to a grocery store to pick up a bottle, not really thinking about where the wine came from, where the vines grew, and what region it was produced. Did you know that in Arizona alone, there are three specific wine regions? These are Verde Valley, Willcox, and Sonoita. While the state is not a huge wine producer, there are some amazing wineries that are worth visiting. Alcantara Vineyards is one such destination winery in Camp Verde, Arizona that you should plan on visiting if you enjoy local wine.
Located in Camp Verde in the Verde Valley wine region of Arizona is a lovely family-owned winery that everyone who enjoys wine should check out. Alcantara Vineyards and Winery had its start in 2004 and has been growing grapes and making excellent local wine ever since.
Many of Alcantara's wines have won awards over the years including several wine of distinction awards for its Viognier, Zinfandel, Petite Syrah, and more.
Growing on the property are more than 20,000 grapevines of 17 different varietals. And with a picnic area and views, this is an idyllic winery for a tour and tasting.
Winery tours are available on Fridays and Saturdays at 11:30 a.m. Your tour guide will walk you through the vineyard and provide information on the growing of the grapes and the production of wine here. Tours of the winery are complimentary and last about an hour.
The tasting room at Alcantara is open daily at 11 a.m. You have your choice of the regular tasting or the VIP tasting. While each option includes four 1-ounce pours, the VIP experience includes an Alcantara Vineyards glass to take home as a souvenir.
While enjoying a glass of wine out on the lawn overlooking the grapevines, why not have something to eat as well? Order an antipasto plate, a specialty or individual cheese plate, a hummus plate, an artisan bread basket, a sandwich, pizza, and/or dessert. So many delicious options for both wine and food!
For something a little different, check out the Water to Wine Kayaking on the Verde River tour Alcantara Vineyards has available! This is the most unique wine-tasting experience you could ever have.
