In spite of its relatively short period since statehood, Arizona’s history runs long and deep. From ancient cliff dwellings and more, the Grand Canyon State is a vast place in which you can routinely discover the history of our territory and our country. One such place can be found in the tiny town of Crown King in Yavapai County. Once a thriving gold mining town, it’s now home to a little more than 100 residents. But the convenient location high in the Bradshaw Mountains, and just 17 miles west of I-17, make it a fun day trip for both adventure and history seekers.
Once inside this down-to-earth community, you will find a few noteworthy must-visit places, including the historic Crown King Saloon and Cafe.
The lively saloon and restaurant is a frequent stop for locals and visitors alike. Aside from the food and events, folks come for the history. In every direction you look inside this historic building, you'll get a sense not only of the history of the building, but also of the community itself.
In 1906, the owner of this business (which, at the time, was a butcher shop) worked for the Crown King Mine. But he also owned a butcher shop in the next town over, and he didn't want his business in another town. So, piece by piece he disassembled the entire building and moved it to Crown King, carefully putting all the pieces back together again.
Over time, the few businesses that have occupied the space that is now the Crown King Saloon & Cafe have served the community for more than 110 years. Now, as a saloon and cafe, the food found here is delicious, and it's easy to see why folks come back again and again.
The flavorful selections on the daily menu include a full breakfast, lunch and dinner. In the early morning, you can go all the way with the Chicken Fried Steak or the Miner's Benedict, or stick to the basics with eggs and bacon.
Lunch and dinner choices are aplenty. From salads to burgers and more, you will find something to please the palate. Top it off with an order of piping hot fries!
The Crown King Saloon & Cafe is fun for the whole family and filled with a historical vibe you just can't shake — but then again, why would you want to?
Gas up the car and head to this fun (and historic) eatery in Crown King – and come hungry!
