Train rides are one of the best family-friendly activities out there. Fun for all ages, relatively inexpensive, and a great way to experience nature. Every holiday season, Verde Canyon Railroad gets a Christmas makeover and takes passengers on a magical excursion to the North Pole. Check it out:
Your magical journey begins at the depot, which has been transformed into a Christmas village. Lights, trees, and decorations abound as well as holiday treats to enjoy as you peruse the magnificent display.
A live bald eagle and Christmas princess will greet each child as they board the train. Ornaments, garland, and thousands of twinkling lights adorn every car, ensuring the trip itself is just as enchanting as the destination.
Before setting off, all the tiny tots have an opportunity to write Santa a letter. They'll be mailed during a pit stop at the Polar Post Office to ensure everyone's Christmas wish comes true.
Upon arrival at the North Pole, passengers explore a life-sized town with everything Saint Nick and his crew need to prepare for the big day. This is where Mrs. Claus bakes delicious goodies that keep everyone fed during long days of toy making.
Here's where reindeer go to learn the ins and outs of accomplishing the most important mission of their lives. Hopefully Rudolph isn't getting picked on in there...
Making sure every little boy and girl is happy on Christmas morning is the big man in red's number one priority, so elves are required to attend rigorous classes on the art of toy making. When graduation rolls around, they're ready to take on even the tallest of orders from children near and far.
It's a long ride back, so pop into Sugar & Spice Cafe for a little pick-me-up before heading out. This is where your dreams of sugar plums and gum drops come to life!
Trains depart every Saturday and Sunday from December 1-23 at 5:30 and 7 p.m. The depot is located at 300 N. Broadway, Clarkdale AZ 86324. Have you ever taken Verde Canyon’s Christmas Train? If so, what was your favorite part of the excursion?
