I'm an east coast girl living in a west coast world. I grew up in New England before moving to SoCal for several years. I then lived in NYC or a year before moving to AZ in 2009. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years of my adult life and have a deep love for photography, writing, and traveling around the U.S. as well as to far-flung locations around the world. Travel is my life and writing about it is a dream!
When we think of college towns in Arizona, Tucson, Flagstaff, and Tempe are probably the first places that come to mind. At least those are the places I think of. Home to ASU, NAU, and The U of A, these towns are teeming with college kids when school’s in session. However, there’s another charming college town in Arizona that’s worth exploring. Home to 10 schools offering college degrees, seven of which are private four-year colleges, Prescott is the very definition of a college town. Best of all, there’s so much to see and do here!
It may come as a surprise to some but Prescott is quite a college town! Home to 10 institutions where you can acquire a college degree, this town is chockfull of college students.
Among the colleges here are Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (pictured here), NAU (Prescott Campus), NAU (Prescott Valley Campus), Prescott College, and Yavapai College.
Whether you're a college student or just visiting, Prescott is an incredible town to explore. Not only is there an epic downtown that's home to shops, restaurants, and the famous Whiskey Row, but natural attractions abound as well.
There's no doubt that Prescott is a fun town to visit. When I visit family here, I love walking around the downtown area to check out the antique shops, saloons, and restaurants. It has that Old West feel that I just can't get enough of!
If you happen to find yourself on Sheldon Street by Yavapai College, be sure to stop at State 48 Hometown BBQ for some smoky BBQ including brisket, pulled pork, and ribs.

If you're keen on exploring the natural side of Prescott, the town is home to several lakes including Willow Lake (pictured here). Aside from the lakes, there are dozens of hiking trails around town as well.
