What if you could see dozens of Sedona caves in just one day of hiking? That dream can be your reality in the red-rock area, which boasts countless trails that feature jaw-dropping caves. Some are in plain sight, while others hide in wait to be discovered. Even better, many of the trails have more than one cave, so your adventures need to know no bounds. What are you waiting for? Check out these epic cave hikes in Arizona:
This gorgeous short hike in AZ is a local favorite simply because it offers the chance to see several different natural wonders. From a series of jaw-dropping natural pools to this cave providing panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, the trail is just an all-around good time. You'll also see a massive sinkhole formed by the collapse of an underground cavern. The trail is only moderately difficult, too, so you'll enjoy the smorgasbord of breathtaking sights without back-breaking effort.
Nestled in the Red Rock-Secret Mountain Wilderness, Boynton Canyon Trail is among the most popular Sedona-area hikes - and it's easy to understand why. At 7.3 miles in length, it's rather long, but the payoff is not just one but several awe-inspiring caves. This one is located at the end of the trail, making it the perfect place to stop, take some photos, and enjoy the scenery.
Another iconic hiking trail in Arizona, the trail to the Birthing Cave, is just two miles long round-trip and leads to one of the most incredible vistas in the entire state. The last part of the hike is rather steep and slippery, so use caution. Also, this is a sacred cultural site, so be respectful and pack out what you pack in!
This lively Sedona hiking trail is extra special for a couple of reasons. First, it's only half a mile out and back! Next, in addition to being short and sweet, the trail also leads to several small caves that overlook the Coconino National Forest. Enjoy the views - just don't get too close to the edge, as it's a long way down!
Last - but certainly not least - we have Robbers Roost, a three-mile hike that's essentially out in the middle of nowhere. Its name allegedly comes from the fact that outlaws used the cave as a vantage point to survey the land and plan their getaway. We can't speak to the truth of that claim, but one thing is for sure: the hike is so worth taking!
