A Blue Oasis Is Hiding In This Desolate Canyon In Arizona

Arizona is just full of surprises. Though parts of the Grand Canyon State might seem desolate, you’ll often find little treasure hidden amongst the sagebrush and cliffs. Here’s one such surprise…

Nestled betweem the forbidding cliffs of the Superstition Mountains, you'll find a little blue oasis.

Canyon Lake is just 51 miles east of Phoenix, and it's a beautiful, 950-acre gem.

The lake was one of several reservoirs created when the Mormon Flat Dam was built in 1925.

It's a popular area for all kinds of recreation, including fishing and boating. A marina provides boat storage and rental, and you'll also find a restaurant there.

When you visit, keep an eye on the cliffs above the reservoir. You'll find bighorn sheep...

...and even bald eagles, who nest in these cliffs.
