I'm an east coast girl living in a west coast world. I grew up in New England before moving to SoCal for several years. I then lived in NYC or a year before moving to AZ in 2009. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years of my adult life and have a deep love for photography, writing, and traveling around the U.S. as well as to far-flung locations around the world. Travel is my life and writing about it is a dream!
If you live in Arizona, you know how special a time of year the Christmas season is. And what better way to celebrate than by visiting Prescott? This small, charming, and historic city is best known for its Whiskey Row and for being the official Christmas city in the Grand Canyon State. On Saturday, Dec. 2, 2023, the 69th Annual Courthouse Lighting will occur. This time-honored tradition is the best holiday light display in Prescott, AZ, and will make your holidays merry and bright!
If you've never spent any time in Prescott during the holiday season, you're missing out. As the official Christmas City of Arizona, Prescott is as good as it gets with its twinkling light displays, festivities, community events, and more.
While homes, businesses, and storefronts start decorating before Thanksgiving, the true kick-off to the Christmas season in Prescott happens during the annual Courthouse Lighting event.
The Courthouse Lighting is a much-anticipated holiday event held at the historic Yavapai County Courthouse in downtown Prescott. The entire town seems to gather in the square for the events leading up to the illumination of the light display.
Festivities will start with a parade and Santa followed by singing by the Prescott High School Chamber Singers. At 6 p.m., the lighting of the Courthouse and fireworks will begin.
If you can make it to this event, it's a wonderful way to put you in the holiday spirit. If not, the Courthouse will be illuminated the entire season so I urge you to visit when you can!
