8 Most Likely Ways Arizona Will Be Wiped Off The Map

It seems a little morbid to be considering the end of times just as a new year is about to get started, but I actually spent the weekend watching “Doomsday Preppers,” so it’s naturally on my mind. While I’m not terribly convinced that the end of the world as we know it will happen anytime soon, it is interesting to consider the possibilities. So, let’s take a look at a few of the ways in which Arizona could see its end.
This one is entirely plausible and has been the subject of plenty of speculation about how our state would handle such a water emergency. We haven't been exactly smart about our water usage over the past century.
Here's another natural event that has been fodder for Arizona's end and a theory that has been met with plenty of criticism from the National Park Service over how likely it is for the event to occur. If it were, we're far away enough from Yellowstone to not get covered in magma but instead could see a volcanic winter by a massive ash cloud. The park service, however, notes that it is highly unlikely for an eruption to occur within our lifetime.

The year 2015 was the year of disease outbreaks with ebola devastating some parts of the world and measles showing its ugly face once again here in the States. Last century, Arizona saw pandemics such as the Spanish flu and tuberculosis that hit our state hard. The only remaining question is what deadly disease could possibly spread fast enough to devastate our population?

Perhaps that outbreak could be something that creates a zombie-like behavior and suddenly we're living a "Dawn of the Dead" reality. Who knows? It could happen.

"Tornado Alley" isn't something usually associated with Arizona but back in 2010, the state saw a record eight tornadoes touch the ground within a two-day span. The tornadoes were enough to cause some heavy damage and injured several people in northern Arizona. While we may not see some super crazy tornado (like a sharknado) wipe out the entire state, we could see something worse than the 2010 event.
Remember those small earthquakes in Black Canyon City earlier this year? That certainly reminded you that earthquakes are a possible occurrence in Arizona which, according to a report published by the Arizona Geological Survey, has a pretty big number of faults. In fact, northern Arizona is particularly susceptible but that doesn't mean the rest of the state is safe.
Here's another one that takes a normal Arizona disaster to the extreme and sounds like a B-rated movie. However, wildfires are a very real danger here in Arizona and if the conditions were just right, our state could be devastated by several very massive ones, especially if our water issues became significantly worse.
It's pretty easy to forget about Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station, which sits 25 miles west of Phoenix metro area: we've never had any known issues to date and it's far away enough to be out of sight, out of mind. However, a disaster scenario could quickly translate into exposure to radiation for anyone living within the 50-mile range (I'm screwed but you East Valley folks should be fine). And with the disaster at Fukushima a few years ago following a tsunami, it's something that we should keep in the back of our minds.
