In case you need a reminder, right now is the best time to enjoy southern Arizona’s weather! Winter here means mild temperatures, little snow, sunny days, and colorful scenery. If you’re looking for a way to enjoy all the joys that winter has to offer, then you’ll definitely want to head out for a horseback ride! There are so many stables located around the state that finding one can be a bit overwhelming. Here’s one located right at the edge of Tonto National Forest that we absolutely love!
Spur Cross Stable is a family-owned ranch sitting at the edge of Cave Creek, just shy of the Tonto National Forest boundaries, making it a convenient location that still allows you to get out into nature.
Also on site is an animal rescue that helps to rehabilitate and re-home horses, so you can rest assured that the animals here are cared for quite well!
Trail rides are available in a variety of lengths and settings. Choose a short one-hour ride if you’re a newbie, a sunset ride to enjoy with your sweetie, or rides that take almost all day so that you can really enjoy the scenery!
This is the kind of view you'll get during your trail ride! Beautiful desert, a cool (or even chilly) breeze, and little horses ears right at the edge of your vision.
You’ll also get to witness historical remnants of people who once lived in these areas. Artifacts and other items left behind from the Hohokam centuries ago and from miners in the 1870s still sit out in the open, showcasing the history of the area.
Once you return to the ranch, don't forget to check out the other animals that live here! Goats, a potbelly pig, a tortoise, dogs, and others know the ranch as home.
To get a better sense of what your experience will be like, check out this video produced by the stable!
Those are some gorgeous views! Spur Cross Stables is located at 44029 North Spur Cross Road in Cave Creek. You can find more information about their services, fees, and hours of operation by visiting their website or Facebook page.
