Here’s Arizona’s Top Outdoor Attraction And You’ll Definitely Want To Do It
The Grand Canyon is one beautiful place but it takes all the national park glory here in Arizona and in the Southwest. So while it technically is the most visited national park that exists only in Arizona (and the 7th most visited park in the country), we’re going to take a look at one place that sees more visitors every year but is also shared with another state.
The top destination? Lake Mead.

Sitting in the northwest corner of Arizona along the Colorado River and shared with our neighbor Nevada, Lake Mead National Recreation Area was the fifth most visited park in 2015. It had nearly 7,299,000 visitors just last year and that number most likely grew this year!

Surrounded by rugged desert terrain, the lake also acts as a major reservoir for our state and also happens to be the largest in the country (based on volume capacity when completely full). You can thank the nearby Hoover Dam for that role, which no doubt brings in additional visitors.

The large lake is a popular spot for boating, fishing, and other water-related activities. But did you know that you can find quite a few hiking trails in the park? There are more than a dozen trails, ranging from easy strolls to strenuous hikes that will really take a toll on your body. Taking any of these hikes will introduce you to the Mojave Desert, which is quite unique to other surrounding deserts.
