This past week, we’ve seen some crazy weather here in Arizona. Rain and thunderstorms are pretty common during the monsoon season but in some areas, it’s been torrential. Although the next week seems to be pretty calm, there’s no telling how the rest of the month will look. Incase more rain comes your way, here are some things you can do on a rainy day.

1. Visit a museum!

Arizona has museums of all sizes and one is bound to strike your fancy. The Arizona Science Center, for example, will easily take up a couple of hours with the kids.
2. Head to your local bookstore to search for a new read.

Of course, if you can, try to support a local store like Changing Hands in the Phoenix area or Starrlight Books in Flagstaff.
3. Treat yourself!

Either a nice DIY spa day at home or a trip to a fancypants spa is great for treating the dehydrated, dead skin that summer brought you.
4. Create a masterpiece at home or at a painting studio.

Two recent trends here: adult coloring books and drinking painting parties. Take your pick. If you decide on the latter option, look for a place like the Art of Merlot in Scottsdale or Paint Along for Fun in Sedona.
5. Visit your local arcade for a good time.

Alas, finding a place to enjoy a few games of pinball or Galaga is few and far between but they’re out there! While you search for those (look at some of the mom and pop pizza or burger places), you can still enjoy some more modern versions like Gameworks or even at bowling alleys and movie theatres.

6. Teach yourself (or your kids) to prepare a food.

Regional items like tortillas, fry bread, and enchiladas, are great choices. Sun tea on a cloudy and rainy day probably isn’t.
7. Hit up one of the local casinos for gambling and some food.

You’ll find these places scattered across the state, so bring a $20 bill or two and see where you end up! Or you can play a game of poker at home.
8. Practice your rock climbing skills at the gym.

These places have climbing walls for all ages and abilities. Sometimes, you can find climbing walls at community centers, colleges, or even small arcades.
9. Enjoy the rain outside.

Play, jump, splash. We just recommend exercising precautions if you plan to do this, such as avoid flooding areas and thunderstorms.
10. Alternatively, sit back with a cup of tea (or iced tea), a book, and enjoy the rain! We see it far less often than we probably should.
