We Dare You To Stay In This Arizona Cave And Not Absolutely Love It

Grand Canyon Caverns is an unassuming stop along Route 66, just 22 miles west of Seligman. Flags line the highway and modest signs direct you along a narrow road to the caverns. At the end of the road, you are greeted by this sight...

...which has remained almost unchanged in the decades since the attraction came to life, thanks to the Mother Road. This piece of Americana kitsch - which reminds us of the significance of Route 66 and just how old these caverns must be - is the only clue that a cave exists in the area. It is also home to one of the most unique hotel room entrances you'll ever encounter.

Wander through the building, which hosts a restaurant and gift shop, and eventually you’ll find your way to an old elevator that takes you down 20 stories (with a guide, of course) to the dry cave. Once down in the earth’s depths, you’ll find the cave to be quiet, cool, and dark. From here, you’ll follow a path that leads you to the Cavern Suite.

Located 200 feet below ground, the suite itself is large and spacious with high ceilings to reduce any claustrophobic feelings you might get. It is also complete with amenities you would expect from any hotel room: beds, a sofa, a kitchenette, a bathroom, and several entertainment options. Of course, if you’re staying the night here, we suggest not hunkering down in front of the TV and instead taking advantage of one of the best parts of booking a night here: exploring the cave without the crowds.

Once you’re finished wandering, settle into bed and turn out the lights for a night of the deepest, darkest sleep you’ll ever experience.
