Slot canyons don’t look like much from above, but once you're underground in places such as Antelope Canyon, you can get another perspective of earth. Since slot canyons tend to be notorious locations for flash floods, you will want to take precautions and schedule a tour in advance. If you’re looking to become the next Indiana Jones, a visit to the Casa Grande Ruins to strengthen your archaeological skills is a must. You can opt for a guided or self-guided tour, along with a stop at the visitor center to get more in-depth knowledge about the place.

When most people visit the Grand Canyon, they often make a quick visit to the South Rim. Make your tour longer by exploring other areas of the canyon, such as hiking down into the canyon or visiting the North Rim or West Rim. One of my favorite aspects of Petrified Forest is that the park is expansive enough that it can satisfy both your thirst for knowledge and exploration in multiple trips. There are plenty of hiking areas to explore, historical markers and sights and an amazing collection of geological formations within a relatively short land area.
Most people in the Phoenix area only see the Superstition Mountains from afar where it still seems rugged and potentially dangerous. If you’re feeling adventurous, a day hike in the area is rough--but the rare sights are worth the effort.
