There’s no meal more classically American than the burger. We can order it just about everywhere with a side of french fries, and a tall, icy drink to wash it all down. It’s not exactly the pinnacle of healthy choices but all that really matters is that the burger is delicious.
So what makes the perfect burger? Everyone has their own interpretation but definitely not something that’s dry, dense, or the flavor of cardboard. We want something juicy, flavorful, has a certain degree of crumble to the meat, fresh toppings, and a bread that compliments rather than overpowers the burger. Here are some suggestions for restaurants to get awesome burgers!
For a classic burger served with a shake, fries, and an affordable price tag, Bing’s is a great spot to cue up the nostalgia especially since the restaurant is located in an old service station. For a classic, try the deluxe cheeseburger or, for something just a little healthier, try the turkey burger.
Personally, I think there’s nothing better than biting into a charbroiled patty cooked to a medium perfection. The Chuckbox gets it right and has an amazing condiment bar, which probably explains why it has been an ASU favorite for years. Just be sure to arrive with cash!
If you’re looking for a truly homegrown burger, then you need to head over to Diablo Burger! They specialize in creating burgers with ingredients sourced from local places within 250 miles of each location, meaning the bread, cheese, beef, and other toppings almost always come from Arizona ranchers, farmers, and bakers. As for the burger itself, it’s cooked to order and oh so tasty!
Flagstaff Address: 120 North Leroux Street, Flagstaff
This burger shop was recently named a Phoenix favorite in the local news and for good reason! It’s a great place to get a no-nonsense, classic burger that is delicious and yet dining out won’t make your wallet cry (most burger combos are under $6).
We’ve featured this restaurant before for it’s quirky interior décor but also for their delicious burgers. You’ll find a nice selection of delicious burgers of all kinds but they are most known for the Lutes Especial, a burger-hot dog concoction meant to be eaten with their house salsa.
Classic burgers, fries, and shakes, what more could you ask for? This burger joint has quite a few favorite varieties, including the Moab, a huge, juicy burger made of two patties topped with chilies, onions, bacon, and other items.
Sitting in a strip mall, you can find Monkey Burger by spotting their food truck sitting outside the restaurant. The burgers here are bold and flavorful; one bite will entice you to keep eating to enjoy the juicy, savory goodness in these burgers. If you’re feeling adventurous, add a side of fried pickles with your meal.
If you’re looking for a spot to relax while enjoying a juicy burger, you might want to engage in some food therapy over at Rehab. The restaurant has a casual beach theme and some burgers that sound outlandish and look amazing. One of the standouts includes that monstrosity above, the Mac Gnarly Burger, an homage to one of the most famous fast food burgers in the world.
Named after the burger-loving Popeye character, this restaurant specializes in delicious food with amazing service. The original Wimpy burger is great but if you want something just crazy, then try the Dirty Burger if you don’t feel like eating for the rest of the day.
Address: 48 South San Marcos Place, Chandler
Yum! Are there any other restaurants you would recommend for a hot, juicy burger? Bonus points if it’s one that’s massive or has some ridiculous toppings.
