If you’ve spent any amount of time in Arizona, chances are you think this is one beautiful place. In fact, we think so too! If you want to do some traveling around the state, here’s a look at 12 places in Arizona that need to be on your bucket list.
1. Antelope Canyon
If there are any words that accurately describes the beauty of Arizona, they would be stark and surreal. Antelope Canyon, a slot canyon formed by rushing waters, is the perfect example of this beauty. The red sandstone shows off ripples and waves in an otherwise dry environment, while the limited lighting makes this area feel magical.
2. Chiricahua National Monument
Located in southern Arizona, this national monument has some spectacular views but it’s the massive collection of hoodoos that really shines. You’ll find plenty of hiking trails—ranging from super short to trails that will take all day—and even historical areas.
3. Coal Mine Canyon
This stunning canyon sitting on the Navajo Nation and Hopi Reservation is one fantastic hidden gem. There are no signs that indicate its location but once you find it, you’ll never forget the views.
4. Grand Canyon National Park
What kind of list about the most beautiful locations in Arizona would leave off our state treasure? The Grand Canyon not only lives up to its name but it also contains some incredible hidden oases all around the canyon.
5. Kartchner Caverns State Park
Located underground in southern Arizona, Kartchner Caverns is a fairly new cave find. The cavern is massive and almost untouched, making this one of the best examples of a living cave you can find.
6. Mogollon Rim
A visit to Rim Country is a must-do for any Arizonan or Arizonan at heart. It is the threshold between the rugged desert and rich forest, so the views are not only beautiful but you’ll find that your opportunities for outdoor activities almost endless.
7. Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park
Rich, red buttes emerge from the earth at this park on the Navajo Nation and you’ll have a tough time not finding a monumentally beautiful view.
8. Petrified Forest National Park
This Route 66 favorite is not only a cool place to visit but also shows just how diverse the landscape is here in Arizona. The badlands offer a rainbow of colors, there are tons of ancient fossils and ruins, short hiking trails, and plenty of photo opportunities.
9. San Francisco Peaks
The Peaks are not only the highest mountains here in Arizona but are also home to beautifully forested areas, lovely meadows, and the only alpine tundra in the state.
10. Sedona area
If you haven’t visited or at least driven through Sedona, then you have no clue what you’re missing out on! The entire area is surrounded by stunning red rock buttes, the babbling creek, and more hiking trails than you could finish in a weekend.
11. Tonto Natural Bridge State Park
This state park features the world’s largest travertine bridge, which is absolutely massive. Our favorite part of this place is the tiny waterfall that flows over and down the bridge, as well as the trek down to the base of the bridge.
12. Vermilion Cliffs National Monument
Another surreal location, this national monument has some stunning landscapes that you need to see in person. White Pocket, shown above, is just one example but you’ll also find The Wave, Paria Canyon, historic sites, and even an area home to condors.
Wouldn’t you agree those places are simply beautiful? What’s another Arizona location you think deserves to be a bucket list destination?
