1. “Arizona,” Rex Allen Jr.


Let’s start this list with a country classic that presents a nostalgic view of Arizona. Even with all the craziness that can happen, we still live in the most beautiful state.

2. “Get Back,” The Beatles


A brief mention of Tucson but how many other states could claim they were mentioned in one of the Beatles’ songs? This may not be the iconic rooftop video but was one of the only that plays the song in its entirety.

3. “By the Time I Get to Phoenix,” Glen Campbell


The 1967 hit by country legend Glen Campbell peaked at number 2 on the Billboard country singles and 26 on the Billboard Hot 100. It also inspired a number of cover songs, including one by Isaac Hayes.

4. “Ocean Front Property,” George Strait


As a landlocked state, we can only wish this could come true.

5. “Route 66,” Nat King Cole


These days you may not be quite be able to get your kicks on Route 66 but you can at least drive and visit segments of the iconic highway. We appreciate that the jazz singer noted two of our cities.

6. “There Is No Arizona,” Jamie O’Neal


The 2000 country hit by Australian singer is a sad one but we know that the places and dreams noted in the song are definitely possible.

7. “Mesa Town,” Authority Zero


Here’s a song younger readers may recognize but I can’t guarantee readers over 40 would enjoy unless you’re a fan of ska punk. The band gives a fast-paced, energetic shout out to its hometown from their debut 2002 album.

8. “Arizona Skies,” Los Lobos


Imagine sitting out on your porch at sunset and hearing this instrumental song.

9. “Tune Out,” The Format


Although this home-grown band is no longer together, we can still appreciate their mention of Valley traffic.

10. “Take It Easy,” the Eagles
