One of the best parks in Arizona also happens to be among the most hidden gems in the Grand Canyon State. Sahuaro Ranch Park is a historic place where you can see over 40 peacocks roaming freely and it’s a unique experience worth having at least once.
One of the most unique places to visit in Arizona, Sahuaro Ranch Park in Glendale is worth a trip from any corner of the state.
Sahuaro Ranch was founded in 1886, and its grounds flourished with fruit orchards, vineyards, and alfalfa fields. The ranch was added to the National Register of Historical Places in 1980 and is now managed by Glendale's Parks and Recreation Department.
As you stroll the grounds and take a look at everything, you'll hardly feel like you're in present-day Glendale. Instead, you'll swear you've traveled back to much simpler times, long before the area was a bustling cog in the metro Phoenix machine.
What is that secret? Peacocks! Not just one or two, either. A whopping 40 of the colorful birds roam freely throughout the grounds of Sahuaro Ranch Park and they're always eager to meet new people.
Descendants of three peacocks purchased at the Chicago World’s Fair in 1933, these majestic creatures have called the ranch home for nearly a century. When they spread their tail feathers, you can't help but gaze in awe at the astonishing display.
Visit the City of Glendale website for more information about the park, including current hours of operation.
