Watching planes take off is a classic American pastime. Families bond over placing bets on which one will leave the runway first, ascending into the sky and beginning its journey. There’s one restaurant in Chandler where you can do just that, and it’s guaranteed to bring out the kid in us all.
Hiding in an aircraft maintenance hangar on the northwest side of Chandler Municipal Airport is this unassuming little diner. Despite its relatively bland outward appearance, Hangar Cafe has been a favorite local haunt for years.
One of the nation's busiest general aviation airports, more than 200,000 flights depart from here annually. Explore the wide array of planes, picturing them zooming down the runway and catching air right before your eyes.
Indoor seating is limited, but only because most customers prefer dining on the patio. It's here you can marvel at planes taking off and landing, or maybe even catch a glimpse of replica WWII French Nieuports doing loop-de-loops in the sky.
The restaurant is open daily from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nothing hits the spot like a bacon, egg, cheese, and sausage gravy sandwich with biscuits as buns. Add a side of crispy, golden home fries, and this gut-busting meal is complete.
For those who like to sleep in, lunch is just as delicious. Smothered burritos, chicken-fried steak, Polish sausage, and 22 different sandwiches only scratch the menu's surface.
