Hike This Easy Trail Out To One Of Alaska's Most Beautiful Glaciers
Alaska has many glaciers, but few that you can get up close and personal with! In fact, there’s only a handful accessible on the road system, and this amazing glacier is one of them. Take the easy Worthington Glacier Trail to get up close to some of Alaska’s amazing ancient ice!

It's located in a valley near Thompson Pass, in Southeast Alaska. The Worthington Glacier Recreation Site is 113 acres of unspoiled wilderness that you can visit!

This hike is an easy .8 miles out and back. It's paved the entire way, so it's handicapped accessible, and has a very small 265 foot elevation gain.

The glacier has been steadily retreating for over 150 years, so it's not certain how much longer this accessibility will last.

If you want to explore farther, you can actually hike down to the ice to see it up close and personal! Be careful however, as this is a large chunk of ice, and glaciers can be unpredictable.

The beauty of the area is alluring, and it's definitely worth a couple of photos! The waters are extremely cold coming off the glacier, so be sure to stay dry.

You should absolutely stop at this state recreation site if you are heading to or from Valdez! The trail can be easily accessed by everyone in your group, and it may be one of the only times you can get this close to a real glacier!

You can find it at the Address: Milepost 28.7, Richardson Highway, Valdez, Alaska. This site is open year round, so as long as you don't mind braving the roads of Thompson Pass in the winter, you can visit it whenever you feel like it!
