As the weather gets colder, and people begin to dress more warmly, the weather is shifting to winter in Alaska. This awesome season, the longest in the state, is filled with tons of great things to do. From skiing to aurora borealis, Alaska is the place to be when the temperature drops.

With tens of feet of snow in some areas, ice fog, and crystal blue skies come February, winter in the Last Frontier is a wonder to behold.

Whether you love backcountry skiing, snowboarding, or hitting one of our many ski resorts, there’s tons of fresh powder to enjoy. Enjoying the snow is one of the best things to do in our state during the wintertime.
Another great thing to do that isn’t readily available anywhere else is our ice climbing.

Alaska has most of the world’s glaciers, and that means world-class ice climbing. And if you’re in the Valdez area, hit one of the two epic frozen waterfalls where you can climb hundreds of feet on popular ice climbing routes.
