The owners, Bill and Dorothy, have successfully grown a small operation that they started with their bare hands into a booming business that continues distribute to new locations and win awards of excellence with every passing year. Through the years their facility has grown and expanded right along with their fan base. Bear Creek Winery has become very good at taking home the prize. In fact, most recently in 2016 their Raspberry, Alaskan Apple and Black Currant Reserve picked up prizes from the Finger Lakes International Wine Competition held this past March in Rochester, NY.
They even took home the People's Choice Award for "Best Drink" at the 2016 Taste of the Kenai celebration put on by the Kenai Peninsula Tourism Marketing Council.
Something that makes Bear Creek Winery so unique is that they only buy fruit from the local community. Types that they buy include ed raspberries, yellow raspberries, blueberries, black currants, strawberries, gooseberries, apples, low bush cranberries and rhubarb.
And in addition to sourcing locally, they also grow a lot of their own fruit right on property. Many would not expect this outdoor growing paradise from a winery in Alaska, but Bear Creek Winery breaks the mold when it comes to living off the land.
When staying the night at Bear Creek Winery in their high-end lodging, guests get the pleasure of enjoying a complementary bottle of wine alongside a box of truffles and breakfast the next morning at a local restaurant in Homer.

Who would have thought that a colorful tree made from old wine bottles would be so pretty? We are loving the creativity. It just screams "Homer" in the most brilliant way! We are also loving that beautiful moose in the background overlooking Kachemak Bay. What a stunning sight to behold.
After visiting Bear Creek Winery, it's basically an unwritten rule that you must take a bottle of wine down to the beach and enjoy a glass with great company. Because when you're in Homer, there is nothing better than good wine and a long walk on the beach staring at beaming snow-capped mountains and a glistening glacier.
