And every autumn, Alaska comes ablaze with some of the prettiest colors you’ll ever see, all over the state. And they all start at the top of our mountains!

You can turn around whenever you need, but we recommend you at least get far enough to be surrounded by these epic colors. Pack a lunch and make it a day trip if you can.

If you can catch the trail on a sunny day, even better. Sometimes the mist can obscure some of the views.

You do have to do some climbing on the trail to reach these views, however. You can expect to hike 2,585 feet along the entirety of the trail.

The next time you have a day free, put this hike at the top of your list.

It’s beautiful all year long, but there’s something extra special when the mountains glow in the autumn colors. And with snow beginning to fall and termination dust arriving, it won’t look like this for much longer!
