Entering into the Virgin Creek Falls Trail, you’ll notice right away the air around you shifts as you move from sunlight into dense forest.
The sun begins to shine through the trees, and the plants seem to envelop you as you begin your hike. Stepping into the forest feels like walking right into a fairytale!
It’s a short, enchanting hike, and a little steep.
Bring sturdy shoes that are good for climbing over roots. You’ll ascend about 180 feet into the forest.
The entire length of the trail, out and back, is only half a mile.
It’s a short but very sweet climb, with the captivating falls greeting you at the end. It’s a moderately busy trail, so you may find you have the whole thing to yourself when you go, which only adds to the atmosphere.
The area is framed by hanging moss, and mist rises up from the water as it hits the rocks below.
Bring a good camera, because you won’t want to forget the scene you’ll arrive at. It’s a true wonderland in Alaska’s rainforest.
The trailhead of this hike is hidden in a residential area.
Please be respectful of the driveways, and stay clear of traffic when you park. The entrance to the trail is at the end of the street.
