Here in Alaska, good food is hiding everywhere. In fact, some of our state’s best restaurants are tucked away where you’d least expect them. At first glance, the truck stop featured below may not seem like anymore than a place to fuel up before you continue on your adventure. However, you’ll find that there’s so much more to this place than gas. This truck stop diner is home to some mighty fine food and it’s considered a beloved local gem. The next time you find yourself in the vicinity, do yourself a favor and check it out. Your stomach will thank you.
Located along the Elliot Highway, the Hilltop Truck Stop is the last stop for gas for the next hundred miles. It's also home to one of the best roadside diners our great state has to offer.
You'll find the Hilltop Truck Stop located just 16 miles north of Fairbanks. You may actually recognize the name of this place already since it's been featured on the hit reality show "Ice Road Truckers" a handful of times.
On the exterior, the Hilltop may look like any other truck stop, but don't be fooled. Inside you'll find a quaint diner serving up delicious, home-style food amid the rows of convenience store items and souvenirs.
The menu is comprised of typical diner items such as burgers, sandwiches, and breakfast plates. Breakfast is served all-day and the food is always steaming hot—a welcome sight after a long day of driving on the highway.
The beauty of this place is the simplicity. The food may not be fancy but it's definitely wholesome. Boasting huge portions and a delicious homemade quality, you're bound to be satisfied.
Just be sure to leave room for dessert. After all, Hilltop is especially renowned for their world-famous pie. The slices are more than generous and they do not disappoint.
They offer all of your favorite pie flavors, and then some. Coconut cream, triple berry, apple, you name it! Be sure to try out the "Fat Man", their specialty chocolate pie with a cream cheese crust.
There's something delightfully old-fashioned about this place. It's the type of place you can see yourself stopping at again and again whenever you find yourself on this section of the Elliot. The food is great, the service is friendly, and the company is good. Just be sure to pick up a "I Brake For Pie" bumper sticker while you're here.
