Board These Beautiful Trains Routes In Alaska For An Unforgettable Experience
If you’re anything like Sheldon from the Big Bang Theory than you’re going to love this list of breathtaking train rides around Alaska! What I really like about the Alaskan Railroad is that there are multiple pricing options for every tour, so you can see all the incredible views without breaking the bank. Go high class and buy tickets for the Gold Star Dome on the upper level of the train. You are treated to all-inclusive meals, priority seating in the dining cart, and massive dome windows giving you a spectacular view. If you’re looking for something less expensive but equally as memorable, travel the Adventure Class and enjoy large seats and helpful guides during your trip.

The Coastal Classic Route is a 4 hour, 114-mile trip from Anchorage to Seward. The train departs from Anchorage in the morning and returns in the evening allowing you to spend the day exploring the town of Seward. On the train you’ll ride along the cook inlet for over 30 miles - keep an eye open for beluga whales and other Alaskan wildlife!
After leaving the coastline the train takes you over the Kenai Mountains through Grandview pass giving you spectacular views of glaciers, waterfalls, and even more wildlife.

Denali really is the star of all the views you experience on the Denali Star Route from Anchorage to Fairbanks. The Denali Star Route is a much longer train ride covering 350 miles and passing through Wasilla, Talkeetnah, and Denali before rounding back to Fairbanks. If you feel like making it a true vacation consider staying overnight in either Talkeetnah or Denali, two stops the train makes along its route. No matter how you chose to ride the rails, the Denali Star Route will fill your camera with incredible scenic shots and awesome videos of Alaskan wildlife - I promise!

The Glacier Discovery Route is very different than the rest because it has an optional day tour added into the middle of the route for the rider's convenience. The route leaves in the morning from Anchorage to Whittier and doesn’t depart back to Anchorage until later that evening giving you ample amount of time for tours during the day. The Glacier part of the route is during the day after the train has reached Whittier. It then departs for a Glacier Tour through Grandview Pass to Spencer Glacier. The train stops a couple times along the way allowing you to explore the glacier region of Alaska and even stops outside the cruise ship terminal on its arrival back into Whittier for those departing via boat!
So, hop on a train and get going! You won’t regret it!
