Head to this sophisticated spot in Seward for cosmopolitan dining in a seaside oyster bar.
The Cookery
209 5th Ave.
Seward, Alaska 99664
Centrally located in downtown Seward, the Cookery is a wonderful place to stop for dinner, appetizers, or simply a half dozen oysters on a sparkling bed of ice.
The atmosphere is sleek and modern, although you can wear casual attire as you can almost anywhere in Alaska.
The oysters are unparalleled in flavor and freshness, locally farmed-raised in the Resurrection Bay. They are hand-shucked, delivered daily within hours of harvesting and served with a variety of toppings, sauces, and garnishes.
Salmon is also a frequent starring player in the menu. Chef Kevin Lane personally creates all the dishes using local and seasonal ingredients. The finest in Alaska's microbrews and wines are selected to pair with the dishes.
The elegant presentations bring a little cosmopolitan class to the oyster bar game in Alaska. The appetizers are artistic, tasty, and great for a stop with friends when you don't want a full meal.
Chef Kevin Lane celebrates local seafood and uses his knowledge of world cuisine to create interesting and delicious dishes. Halibut cheeks, an Alaskan delicacy, are dressed up in a coconut curry broth with pickled local rhubarb and peanuts.
The icy waters nearby are a hotspot for fishing and the freshest catch ends up as a daily special. This fresh halibut, buttermilk grits, spring slaw, spicy red pepper relish, with avocado purée is one of the chef's creative inventions.
Another take on the fish is this BBQ rubbed halibut, buttermilk grits, roasted corn and zucchini salad with Alaska-grown basil vinaigrette. The farms of the area are well represented in the menu.
For Father's Day, they came up with the Dad’s Plate consisting of pulled pork, house smoked kielbasa, baked beans, roasted tomato slaw, and white bread.
Head to The Cookery for the most inventive and delicious cuisine at this seaside oyster bar. You'll love the ambiance, style, service, and creative menu full of the bounty of Alaska.
