Alaska’s miners brought in sourdough when making their way here during the Gold Rush. Alaskans are so proud of it that newcomers (or “Cheechakos”) who spend their first winter here are even crowned “Sourdoughs.” The sourdough pancakes at Nummy’s are made with a starter from 1865 that a miner brought out to Alaska!
