Alaska’s miners brought in sourdough when making their way here during the Gold Rush. Alaskans are so proud of it that newcomers (or “Cheechakos”) who spend their first winter here are even crowned “Sourdoughs.” The sourdough pancakes at Nummy’s are made with a starter from 1865 that a miner brought out to Alaska!
Located in the beautiful Copper River Valley, the Old Town Copper Center Inn & Restaurant is right in Copper Center.
The building was a historic log communications station, brought in from Thompson Pass. The current owner's family purchased the structure in 1948, and it's been passed down through family members ever since!
The most famous item on their menu is their sourdough pancakes.
These fluffy, light, and delicious hotcakes were frequently requested and have since made it on the regular menu. The sourdough starter came from a miner from Pennsylvania in 1865.

They offer a special rhubarb sauce for their sourdough pancakes.
Rhubarb is one of the very first plants that come up in the spring in the Copper River Valley. The recipe for this delicious local delicacy is actually passed on by owner Kim's grandmother, who ran a cafe on the Glenn Highway in the 1960s and 1970s.
You can enjoy fabulous breakfast delights, and specials like this incredible Eggs Benedict. Order a side of reindeer sausage to round out the Alaskan experience.
The dining room is nicknamed Nummy's for the owner Tom's grandmother, who ran the Copper Center Lodge and restaurant for many decades.
The original restaurant burned down in 2012, and George Ashby's tavern, Club 96, was turned into the restaurant and kitchen. The whole building has been updated with beautiful touches like a hand built fireplace with rocks from the Chitina River.
This is the perfect spot for a bright and cheerful breakfast. With the nice umbrellas, you don't have to worry about getting burnt, even on the brightest of days.
You can find Nummy's Restaurant inside the Old Town Copper Center Inn & Restaurant.
