It is a quick out and back trail, with only 68 total feet of elevation gain. This makes it very accessible for many ages and skill levels.
Many travelers heading to Sitka on cruise ships find this to be a great way to get beautiful views of the area without having to travel out of town.

The 1.4 mile hike makes for a quick journey. You can finish the whole walk in under an hour, even if you take your time.
After crossing the Skagway River, you'll head into the forest.

The forest is quiet, and although the trail is popular, it feels secluded.

Pack good, sturdy shoes for the rocky areas. Halfway into the trail you'll pass by Yakutania Point, where you can watch the cruise ships come in.
If you continue on, you'll make it all the way to Smugglers Cove.

You can actually continue on from this point, and do a rough loop if you don't want to come back in the way you came. There are a couple of short spurs off of this trail if you're looking to explore a little more!
The trailhead starts by the Sitka Airport.

There's plenty of parking, and even bathrooms available close by. If you're accessing the trail from downtown, follow Main Street until you see the road Terminal Way. Follow that around the corner to the parking lot.
This is a beautiful hike, no matter the season or the weather.
