If you’ve never visited Homer, you have no idea what you’re missing. Once you get there, you can’t miss the Salty Dawg Saloon — it’s a landmark in the this little town. Check it out!
The Salty Dawg Saloon opened in 1957, in a little cabin that was built in 1897.
The cabin was moved to its current location after a flood in 1964, and the lighthouse tower was constructed to cover a water storage tank. The address here is 4380 Homer Spit Road.
People come from all over the world to visit this little saloon, and the dollar bills they leave behind are marked with their names, home cities, funny jokes and other little notes.
The Salty Dawg's signature drink is the Duck Fart — a shot that's layered with Bailey's and Kahlua with some Crown Royal whiskey floating on top. These are so sweet and delicious that they sneak up on you — don't drink too many!
Have you visited the Salty Dawg Saloon? We’d love to hear about your visit! If you want to explore more of Alaska, take a look at these bald eagles on the Homer spit.
