The Remote Alaskan Island You'll Want To Spend More Time Exploring
Alaska has more coastline than any other state combined! A lot of this beautiful coastline is thanks to our 2,670 islands. Most of them are hard to get to, although totally worth the trip! One remote Alaskan island stands out for its fascinating history and beautiful geography. Unalaska is definitely worth the journey to visit.

The island has the largest population of any in the chain. With only 4,376 people, you know that these islands are relatively uninhabited.

There are many inlets, bays, and peninsulas on the craggy shoreline of Unalaska Island. The island is rugged and covered in mountains.

Before the island was fortified in 1941 as Dutch Harbor Naval Operating Base and Fort Mears, it was the residence of over 1,000 Aleut in 1759. The Aleut had more than 24 settlements on the island before the Russians landed.
