Alaska is known for some surprisingly good pizza. In fact, one of our most popular pizza places is the third-rated pizza restaurant in the entire country! So we just had to put together this pizza trail in Alaska, so you could try out these amazing restaurants for yourself. Make a vacation out of it, and enjoy the scenery and the good food as you work your way across the state.
1. Fat Olive’s, Homer, Alaska
You’ll start at the mouth-wateringly good Fat Olive’s in Homer, Alaska. This spot is home to giant, tasty pizzas, incredible pasta and fresh seafood, and a killer wine list. In fact, Fat Olive’s does just about everything right! If you want to go big, grab their 28" pizza that’s so huge, it’s only available for take out. Visit them Sunday through Thursday, from 11:00 a.m. through 8:00 p.m., or Fridays and Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. through 8:30 p.m.
2. Pizza Boys, Soldotna, Alaska
With raving review after review on every platform, pizza at Pizza Boys is a must-enjoy. Head on out the next time you’re on the Kenai Peninsula, and try their "Big Slice," and come hungry! All their pizzas are hand tossed, and you can taste the quality. Check them out Monday through Saturday, from 11:00 a.m. through 9:00 p.m., and Sundays 12:00 p.m. through 8:00 p.m.
3. Chair 5, Girdwood, Alaska
Chair 5 does a lot of things right, especially their pizza. Their signature dish is a deep dish square pizza, made in a Detroit steel pan with a full pound of dough. If you don’t think you could finish one of these tasty beasts, their specialty pizzas are equally good and come in fantastic choices, including a Classic Italian, and a BBQ Chicken that will knock your socks off. Visit them daily from 11:00 a.m. through 11:00 p.m.
4. Moose Tooth, Anchorage, Alaska
Rated the best of the best, Moose Tooth in Anchorage is an institution to Alaskans everywhere. This place is popping every day of the week, and for good reason. This is some of the best pizza you might ever have; in fact, it’s been rated #3 Pizza Place in the United States by TripAdvisor! No small feat, but it lives up to its reputation. Try the Amazing Apricot, a delightful blend of chicken, shredded carrot, apricot jam, and cream cheese. Visit them 11:00 a.m. through 10:00 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
5. Humdinger’s Gourmet Pizza Co, Palmer, Alaska
One of the newest pizza places on our list, opening in 2011, this spot quickly earned a delicious reputation. Enjoy gourmet pizza made in their wood fired pizza oven, and be prepared to be wowed. Even better, you can take some options home and bake them there, if you'd rather have them cooked later! They also offer a gluten free crust that’s to die for. Check them out on Facebook for current hours of operation.
6. Mountain High Pizza Pie, Talkeetna, Alaska
This little rustic cabin in Talkeetna serves up some of the best pizza around. They develop and create their own dough, sauces, and make sure to prepare everything with quality, delicious ingredients. These guys are well known for their tasty dishes, and the gorgeous outdoor patio and great Alaskan beer selection doesn’t hurt, either! Check them out daily from 12:00 p.m through 9:00 p.m.
7. Prospectors Pizzeria and Alehouse, Denali National Park, Alaska
This great spot is located in one of the most beautiful places in the world, right outside Denali National Park. Enjoy hand tossed, wood stone fired pizza, in a fun and interesting atmosphere. They also offer over 49 tasty beers on draft, so you’ll find the perfect one to pair with your pizza. Open seasonally, you’ll want to make sure to visit them this summer!
8. The Hungry Robot, Fairbanks, Alaska
Last but definitely not least, your trip will end with the Hungry Robot. They make their dough and sauces from scratch, and you can tell. All pizzas are thrown in their hot wood fired oven and baked off for a perfect 90 seconds. Open Monday through Saturday, this place is open from 11:00 a.m. through 9:00 p.m. And the best part? They offer delivery, so you don’t have to interrupt your Netflix evening and leave the house!
