If you’re looking for a wonderful exploration of America’s largest National Forest, then you need to head to the Lemon Creek Trail in Juneau.
This trail takes you through some of the prettiest parts of the Tongass National Forest. You’ll get to see towering trees, the lovely Lemon Creek, and more as you hike.
The first third of the trail is packed well and easy to follow.
As you continue, you may have to clear the path of overgrown branches as you go. But it’s well worth it because it takes you deep into a mature forest of Sitka Spruce and Western Hemlock trees.

The trail is partially maintained after the first third of a mile.
There are bridges and boardwalks, and in most places it’s cleared, but occasionally you’ll run into overgrowth and sections of the path that may be in disrepair. Just mind your footing as you cross!
The trail is 5.7 miles long, out and back. You’ll climb about 1,371 ft overall, and be granted an exciting adventure into the Tongass National Forest. Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife because this area has bears, eagles, and Sitka deer. You may see something interesting on your travels.
Long pants will help when you pass through any overgrowth.
Be sure to wear stout hiking boots, because this is a temperate rainforest, and conditions can get muddy. Pack layers in case you get cold if the weather changes.
This is one beautiful hike that you need to do the next time you’re in Juneau. It’s a gorgeous way to stretch your legs and look a bit beyond the city!
