Alaska sometimes seems like an entirely different planet. After all, it’s a super unique habitat — and that leads to stunning landscapes, shocking weather, and really interesting animals. Just consider the might musk ox, which you can visit at one of Alaska’s most popular attractions: Musk Ox Farm in Alaska.
If these little guys look like something out of the Ice Age, well, that's because they are.
The Musk Ox was actually around back then, hanging out with saber-tooth tigers and wooly mammoths.
Now, you can visit musk oxen at Musk Ox Farm 45 miles north of Anchorage and just outside Palmer in the Matanuska Valley.
The farm has been around since the 1930s and is dedicated to preserving the once-endangered animal.
The Chugach and Talkeetna mountains loom around the farm, making it a super picturesque place to visit.
It's absolutely beautiful out here.
Of course, the highlight is getting to meet these unusual and adorable animals!
Musk Ox Farm offers guided tours to teach people all about these animals and more about conservation efforts.
You'll get up close and personal with about 80 precious musk oxen during your time at the farm.
Oh, and see how soft they are? Well, you can buy items made out of their "hair," which is called "qiviut," at the store.
It's the finest wool you can buy. Trust us, it's just SO soft.
Basically, this is a really unique, fun experience that also manages to be educational and thoughtful.
That's no easy feat!
So, will you be stopping by the Musk Ox Farm on your next visit to Palmer? For more information, you can check out the official Musk Ox Farm website.
