This incredible excursion is almost 3 hours of nonstop photo opportunities. This is not a ride you want to miss!
White Pass and Yukon Route run a railway out of Skagway, Alaska.
They offer many different routes out of Skagway. You can travel to the Yukon Territory, British Columbia, or even take a steam train! They also offer options to drop hikers and campers off along the Chilkoot Trail!
This railroad was built 119 years ago, in 1898!
Thousands of railroad constructions workers came together in difficult weather and terrain to build this engineering marvel. The railroad takes you past glaciers, through gorges, and up mountain passes.
You'll head through tunnels deep in the mountains, and chug along large, panoramic trestles.
On the White Pass Summit Excursion, you will travel over 20 miles up into White Pass. The train will climb over 3,000 feet in elevation gain, in just those 20 miles!
Each car has wonderful historical commentary by a guide.
You will ride by incredible waterfalls, and even see the original Klondike Gold Rush Trail of 1898 carved into the rocks you will pass! You will marvel at the two tunnels you'll travel through, and Dead Horse Gulch you'll pass by!
The cars themselves are vintage, and very light, and airy.
There are tall ceilings and plenty of room with tables between seating. The windows are large and picturesque, so you don't miss any wildlife or glacier viewings! The cars are also handicapped accessible.
For an extra splurge, consider upgrading to first class!
The first class cars come equipped with private restrooms, gorgeous leather armchairs, and a fully stocked bar. Enjoy the stunning views from the lap of luxury!
You will also be offered complimentary water bottles during your trip.
The entire trip is only about 40 miles, and a passport isn't needed as you won't be getting off in Canada. It's a very relaxing, two and a half to three hour train ride through amazing Alaskan scenery.
Tickets start at $129.00 for adults, and $64.50 per child.
