Skagway has always been a point of transit for Alaska, with a deepwater port that accesses the mountain passes and the route to interior Canada. This charming town is also a hot-bed of Gold Rush charm as many, many people passed through the town on their way to the gold fields of the Klondike during the Gold Rush. Tucked into the base of the White Pass, you will find an enchanting forested spot where the town sent the journalists to live. You’ll have a wonderful time living like a turn-of-the-century newspaper man, for a few hours anyway, with delicious vittles and a lively show.
Liarsville Road
Skagway, AK 99840
The Liarsville Gold Rush Trail Camp is set in the temperate rainforest of Skagway, at the foot of the White Pass. This attractions has all-you-can-eat fire-grilled salmon, historic exhibits, a live show, and gold panning.
The camp is called Liarsville because during the Gold Rush, the journalists who were dispatched to Alaska lived there and fabricated tall-tales to send back East.
The Gold Rush spirit is alive and well as the entertainers, dressed as though it was 1900, guide you through the camp and tell you about the lives of those pioneers of the past.
Round-trip transportation from the docks near downtown is included in your tour. Don't worry about dinner either, as the Salmon Bake includes an all-you-can-eat alfresco feast in the woods.
Dine on wild Alaskan-caught salmon freshly grilled over an alder wood fire, Chilkoot Chicken, Panner's Pasta, Liarsville Rice Medley, Prospector Pete's Reindeer Beans, Sluice Box Slaw and blueberry cake for dessert.
After you eat, the performers will entertain you with a Robert Service melodrama, and more about the history of the sourdoughs and dance hall girls who sought their fortunes in the Alaska of the past.
Beverages are included in the salmon bake, but if you want something a little stronger, the old time saloon is open for business.
And, of course, old panning rounds out your visit to the gold camp. The best part? Any gold you find, you get to keep... as well as your memories of this awesome day in Alaska.
Dress comfortably for the approximately 2-hour long tour, bring your camera and your sense of fun. You'll have a great time at this fun attraction in Alaska.
