There is nothing quite like hitting the open road in the last frontier. As the daylight begins to fade, the darkness takes over and the temps drop to bone-chilling levels, it’s the perfect time to enjoy a spooky road trip. With hundreds of miles and millions of acres of wide open spaces, you’re sure to see a fair share of wild encounters along the way. Alaska is filled with creepy haunted stories dating back to the 1800s and ghosts from the past that linger around every corner. Are you ready to explore the most haunted places in Alaska?

1. Chena Hot Springs Road - Fairbanks

Between miles 8 and 12 of this road there have been suspicious reports of blue, white and orange orbs of light. Maybe just the Northern Lights? We think not. They are said to appear in the sky and even follow your car during the nighttime. It's said that this happens mainly in the wintertime and after 7pm at night. 2. Birch Hill Cemetery – Fairbanks

Of all the scary places in Alaska, Birch Hill Cemetery is one of the most bone-chilling. Local reports have said that they've seen a little girl wearing a 1900s-era white dress, a floating black figure looming from afar and a little boy dressed in 1930s attire. It is reported that there is an old ghost that lingers at this little bar and can be occasionally seen causing a ruckus. She is said to turn up the volume on the jukebox and slam bathroom doors. This abandoned hotel off the George Parks Highway is quite the display. People who have driven by at night have seen weird lights flickering on the inside and an apparition of a faint woman looming in the distance. Address: Mile 214.5 Parks Highway, Denali National Park and Preserve, AK 99755.
This is likely one of the most unique and unusual graveyards in Alaska. The little spirit boxed on top of the graves contain personal items from those deceased that lay in the ground. Those that practice the Eklutna religion (which is a combination of Russian Orthodox and Eskimo beliefs) believe that the souls of the dead wander for 40 days, looking for their personal items. At Ship Creek in Anchorage it is said that you will find the ghost of a native Alaskan named Marie, who was murdered in this area in 1987. When you're adventuring downtown, be on the lookout and be careful where you step.
7. Historic Anchorage Hotel – Anchorage

People have reported seeing a woman in a white dress in the hallways, the first police chief of Anchorage that died inside the building years back and even children. There are so many ghost sightings here, they have to keep a log in the front lobby! Address: 330 East Street, Anchorage, AK, 99501.

8. Alyeska Resort – Girdwood

Likely the creepiest thing you'll encounter in Whittier is this old abandoned building that sits multiple stories high. A gate surrounds it today so that outsiders can't access and snoop around. This building was finished in 1953 and was built so strong so that it could withstand bombs from the Cold War. Today the only things that remain are terrifying spirits and graffiti clad walls. In this tiny town where the entire population is said to live exclusively in this building, it's a given that some pretty creepy stuff can happen. 11. Van Gilder Hotel – Seward
