8 Restaurants In Alaska Where Your Meal Is Free If You Can Eat It All

Who doesn’t want to win cash and prizes for consuming delicious food like burgers, beer, pho, seafood, pizza, beer, burritos…the list goes on! If you think you can scarf down insufferable amounts of food to the point where you don’t just have to unzip your pants, but instead throw them half heartedly across the room, then these restaurants with food challenges are Alaska is for you!
I’ve taken the time to compile a list of some of Alaska’s better known food challenges from restaurants around the state. If you’ve attempted any of these before and succeeded, we totally want to know about it. If you attempted it once but didn’t complete it…put your big boy pants back on and try again.
Disclaimer! Most of these restaurants give you the meal for free, but if not, at least you get a prize or a picture on the wall!

Where: Humpy's Great Alaskan Alehouse, Anchorage. The Challenge: Here's what you've got to do... in 90 minutes you must inhale 7 crab cakes, one foot of reindeer sausage, 3 lbs of Alaskan King Crab along with side dishes AND their wild berry crisp with ice cream for dessert. If you can complete the challenge you go up on their wall of fame and take home a "I got crabs at Humpy’s" t-shirt! Humpy’s is one of the best local restaurants in Alaska. You can even watch a competitive eater try to finish this crazy challenge!
Where: Boss Hoggz (On the Spit), Homer. The Challenge: In one hour you have to eat four 1/2lb patties separated by grilled cheese sandwiches, bacon, and fried eggs...not to mention an entire pound of fries. If you complete the challenge, you get a free meal AND a spot on their wall of fame. Even Homer News has written about this tasty little restaurant.
Where: PHOnatik Vietnamese Cuisine, Anchorage. The Challenge: To win $500, plus the progressive jackpot, all you have to do is consume a HUGE bowl of pho. That's 64 oz. of broth, 2 lbs of meat, and 2 lbs of noodles. Did I mention you're racing against ten other presumably very hungry and/or broke contestants? It's about to PHO down! Where: Old Town Copper Center, Copper Center. The Challenge: Gulp down a 1lb patty burger topped with bacon, ham, grilled portobello mushrooms & onions, Swiss, cheddar, and pepper jack cheese. Check out their current hours and stay up to date by checking in on their website.
Where: Brewster's, Fairbanks. The Challenge: In one hour you must finish a 3 lb burger, 1 lb of fries, and a 16 oz drink. On the burger comes...2 hamburger buns, 3 handcrafted one pound patties, 4 slices of hickory smoked bacon, 3 cheese slices (Swiss, Pepper jack, Cheddar), 4 ounces of our homemade porter barbecue sauce, 4 tomato slices, 2 pieces of leaf lettuce, 4 oz. of onions, and chipotle or regular mayonnaise. Where: West Rib Cafe and Pub, Talkeetna. The Challenge: Consume their 5 lb burger with over 2 lbs of Caribou burger, sliced ham, 12 slices of bacon, 12 slices of cheese, lettuce, tomato and grilled onions and smothered in their famous "Fat Ass" sauce... whatever that is! You get a spot on their hall of fame if you can do it! But don’t take our word for it; check out this TripAdvisor review about this massive challenge! If you’re wondering where to dine in Alaska, this institution should be on your list.
Where: Pizza Boys, Kenai. The Challenge: As a two person team you can win $250 bucks to consume this HUGE 30" pizza in less than an hour. 2019 edit: this offer may no longer be valid. This fun challenge makes this one of the most unique restaurants in Alaska. Find out what other great items they offer when you check out their menu.
Where: Railway Cantina, Seward. The Challenge: Don't be scared, all you have to do is eat this MASSIVE 5 lb burrito in one sitting.
