The lake is rimmed with the bright magenta of wild Alaskan fireweed, a cheerful addition to the picturesque views. Fly in and out by float plane from Kodiak.
The beautiful lake lies 70 miles southwest of Kodiak and the flight takes about 50 minutes. As you land in this remote and pristine spot, you'll feel all your worries drift away.
If you are interested in fishing, there are man fish in the lake including Dolly Varden, excellent April to November; Sockeye, excellent July and August; Rainbow trout, fair June to November.
The surface of the clear glistening lake is dotted with lily pads.
The lake is a popular place to view bears during salmon season from June-August. There is a "salmon ladder" where salmon can be seen leaping, a prime spot for bear feeding.
The lake holds the second-largest sockeye run on Kodiak Island and it is common to see between 5-10 bears near the salmon ladder. You can see bear mothers, adolescents, and cubs grazing on grasses, catching fish, napping, and playing, and the cubs love to wrestle.
There are two public-use cabins on either end of the lake. Reserve these from the State of Alaska for a magical weekend alone in the Alaskan wild.
Pack your own food, cooking stove and cooking utensils, water, and bedding, maps, compass, matches, and warm clothing when visiting the lake. Bear hunting is good in the area, deer hunting is fair and make sure to get a license from the state of Alaska.
The pristine Frazer Lake in Kodiak is an absolutely beautiful place to visit, rich with wildlife, wildflowers and views for days. Escape it all at this beautiful lake in a remote corner of Alaska.
