The seasons are officially transitioning! The leaves are changing, the temperatures are dropping, and it’s the perfect time of year to get out on a fall hike in Alaska. Whether you’d like to get a good walk in, or you want to hunt down some beautiful foliage, this lovely hike is a great way to spend an afternoon.
There’s a great spot only 30 minutes outside of Anchorage to hike and watch the leaves change color.
The Eagle River Nature Center in Eagle River is host to dozens of beautiful trails to explore. The Albert Loop Trail is an easily accessible trail that shows off the beautiful seasonal changes.
Featuring a stunning river and plenty of great viewpoints, this is a wonderful area to hike during autumn.
The trail itself is short and offers a boardwalk over the water for better views into the valley. It’s an easy 3.2 mile loop.
The trail is very well maintained by the nature center, and groomed enough to bring a stroller along.
The entire elevation gain throughout the trail is only 479 feet. This is a great hike for all skill levels and abilities.
You’ll find benches along the route for a rest if you’d like to take one.
There’s plenty of wildlife to spot, including bears and moose, so keep your eyes peeled and practice good Alaska backcountry safety. Wear a good pair of boots because the trail may be muddy depending on the amount of recent rain.
Sometimes the trail can be closed to bear activity, so be sure to check in at the Eagle River Nature Center before beginning your hike.
If there is a lot of bear activity by the water on this trail, there are numerous other ones to explore. You’ll find something wonderful to hike in this trail system.
The Eagle River Nature Center does charge a fee for parking.
It’s $5.00 per car. If you’d like to become an Eagle River Nature Center member, you can get an annual parking pass that starts at $30.00 for a Student or Senior membership, or a Basic level membership that costs $50.00 annually.
Bring your loved ones and get out and watch autumn arrive in Alaska.
Watch the last flare of foliage before we begin to get our snow. This is the perfect spot to watch the snow head down the mountains!
