As local travel experts, we know what travelers are looking for when it comes to finding the perfect accommodations for their next trip. To compile our lists, we scour the internet to find properties with excellent ratings and reviews, desirable amenities, nearby attractions, and that something special that makes a destination worthy of traveling for.
If you blink, you’ll miss the turnoff. So be sure to keep your eyes peeled as you venture through the tiny town of Cooper Landing on The Kenai, Alaska’s Playground. Eagle Landing Resort is hiding right in plain sight off the Sterling Highway, and it’s seriously like experiencing heaven on earth.
Warm and cozy cabins, a massive outdoor fire pit, a hot tub with a riverfront view, a hammock in the trees, a dock leading out into the beautiful Kenai River and endless beauty from every angle imaginable. Best of all, it’s completely tucked away from the crowds. For a little slice of Alaskan paradise, you’re sure to fall in love with this special spot. Bonus: it’s open all year long!
As you drive across the bridge and into the heart of the tiny town with an annual population of less than 300 people, you'll come upon this special spot located right off of the Sterling Hwy. The signage, although appropriately decorated to match the name, can be easy to miss as it is nestled in a lush trees.
The pullout is located to the right and once you drive in, let's just say that you will be completely captivated by what you see. This place is completely tucked away from the road and the spread very large and unassuming.
They are warm and cozy, and they instantly make you feel right at home. We especially loved how they were nestled in the trees and how each individual cabin felt very quiet and private.
Inside the cabins are lots of fun little accents that remind you that you're in the heart of some of the best fishing in the world. We love the fishing 'welcome' sign as well as that same decor carried throughout different curtains, blankets, etc.
The bar and dining room had seeing for 9 people, which as excellent and it really made the cabin feel extra spacious. Directly next to the kitchen and dining room was the living room area. There was a couch and two over-sized recliners plus a flat screen television with (surprisingly enough) lots of channels available.
The kitchen was right next to the backdoor which had a little table and multiple chairs on it. The view from the porch was of the Kenai River and the massive Kenai Mountains. On a clear, dark night you can sit right on that porch and watch as the Northern Lights dance over the mountains in the sky. We saw it happen first hand and it was out of this world!
Although the space upstairs was a bit cozy, the view overlooking the large mountains and perfectly blue Kenai River was like something straight out of a dream. It really couldn't get any better!
On the spread overlooking the Kenai River are lots of beautiful accents. A hammock alongside two chairs with fresh flowers are a couple ways to enjoy silent moments nestled in nature.
The long dock feeding out into the river is another great way to get in a lofty dose of peace and quiet. Two chairs greet you at the end of the dock, which is a perfect way to take in a sunset or sunrise.
After checking in and checking out all of the cabin amenities, we headed down to the Russian River for some fishing. Just 10 minutes away is access to world class fishing on both the Russian River and the Kenai River. Other activities in the area include hiking, kayaking, wildlife viewing, birding, excellent restaurants and so much more!
When we got back to the resort after a day of fishing, we were ready to take full advantage of the firepit area. Lots of chairs, stacked firewood, picnic tables and even a couple horseshoe pits were located over here. It was the picture perfect spread for a rustic Alaskan getaway.
We made a roarin' fire and enjoyed a couple beers around the campfire with friends, the lodge owner and other guests at the lodge. New friends made and lifelong memories are sure to be taken away from any trip to Eagle Landing Resort in Cooper Landing!
