This small town with a population around 2,700 is known for being a summertime hot spot. From epic multi-species fishing trips on the salt to renowned tourism excursions into Kenai Fjords National Park, the town really doesn’t sleep from May through September. But once the crowds disperse, the dust settles and the locals finally get a day off to rest – that is when we believe that Seward truly shines its most brilliant colors. For the perfect balance of fun and relaxation, Seward is the most picture perfect place for an autumn day trip in Alaska.
The contrast between the natural beauty that surrounds you and the slower pace of traffic in town makes an autumn trip to Seward the perfect balance between fun and relaxation.
On a rainy day, the Alaska SeaLife Center is the perfect place to enjoy marine animals, educational activities and tons of fun indoors and out of the cold.
The smell of salt air and the views of mountains in the distance will completely blow you away. Wear a warm coat and enjoy a picnic outdoors before the snow starts to fly!
If you're someone who prefers to get lost in the woods, head into the backcountry and check out how gorgeous Lost Lake is this time of year surrounded by fall foliage.
A local favorite is the Exit Glacier Trail located off Exit Glacier Road. Gorgeous views of fall foliage against the massive beaming blue glacier = mind blowing!
With temps into the low 20s at night, we know that those white flurries are just right around the corner.

At the end of the day you can unwind with incredible views and wild, natural, sustainable Alaska seafood at Chinooks Restaurant located right on the main strip in town overlooking the harbor.
B&B's, hotels, motels and VRBO's. So many options, so little time!
Whatever you do, be sure to plan your day around making time to see the sunset. With so many opportunities to see the watercolor painted sky, you won't regret making time to soak in the phenomenal sunset colors that are so common in Seward.
