The Carter Lake Trail Will Take You To A Secret Lake In The Mountains Of Alaska
High up in the mountains of the Chugach National Forest is a beautiful lake that you’ll want to see up close and personal. The Carter Lake Trail winds through some of Alaska’s prettiest backcountry on the Kenai Peninsula. The trailhead is located just outside of Moose Pass, and the hike is short but challenging enough to entice every skill level.

At the end of a trail, deep in a valley surrounded by beautiful peaks, you’ll find Carter Lake. The trail to get to this gorgeous spot is moderately difficult and one hundred percent worth it.

You’ll find the first mile and a half to be the steepest and most difficult. After that, it levels out and the hike is very easy and enjoyable.

You’ll have to pass through creeks that cross the trail at some points, and depending on the season. There is regularly snow on the trail in June, so dress accordingly.

Pack a picnic and enjoy a couple hours on the lake. Practice bear safety, because there are plenty of bears in the area.

There are some very well-maintained campsites in the area, and even a cabin to rent if you want to hike through on the Crescent Lake primitive trail. This is a wonderful area to unplug and relax for a couple of days, if you want to stretch it out.

It’s easy to find, and there’s plenty of parking. You’re only five minutes from Moose Pass, and a thirty-minute drive from Seward.

Bring your loved ones to experience the raw beauty of Alaska’s backcountry. You’ll want to soak in every minute, so plan enough time that you won’t need to rush.
